Here are a few tips that can make a big difference!

• You should repair any leaking fixtures and divert air conditioning drip pipes away from your house.
• Divert all water away from your foundation.
• Keep your gutters and downspouts clean and have it divert water at least four feet from your house, which can be done with gutter extensions. If your house doesn’t have gutters, you should have them installed.

• Check decks and wooden fences for damage. Most of the time, decks and wooden fences are installed with wood-to-ground contact.
• Wood on your home should never touch the ground.
• If your house is on a slab, you should see four inches of the slab. If dirt is up to the bricks, it is considered wood-to-ground contact.
• If there is a crack in the mortar or the brick, termites can get into your house through any space greater than 1/32 of an inch.
• Keep all tree branches, hanging plants, and shrubbery trimmed. It should always be six inches from your house. Doing this will help to keep away carpenter ants.
• The entire crawl space of your house should have proper ventilation to help reduce humidity. This also helps keep mold out of your crawlspace. Mold can be just as damaging as termites.
• Eliminate all moisture around the foundation of your home.
• Fill any holes in the ground that’s next to the foundation you might have around your home.
